Beneficial and deleterious bacterial–host interactions in chronic wound pathophysiology Report Title Chronic wounds represent a major health and financial burden. Although incredible advancements in wound management have been made in the last decade, the incidences of chronic wounds continue to increase due to a rise in biofilm-associated infections. The presence of biofilm causes chronic inflammation, leading to impaired healing rates and host mortality. This review describes the deleterious bacterial–host interactions, as well as the beneficial role of pH and probiotics in chronic wound infections. Climate-conflict research: some reflections on the way forward Report Title A decade of systematic research on climate change and armed conflict has revealed a number of interesting patterns but few results that are robust across studies. This essay takes stock of the quantitative empirical literature, identifies central limitations, and presents five priorities for future research in the field...

Fractional trajectories: Decorrelation versus friction Report Title The fundamental connection between fractional calculus and subordination processes is explored and affords a physical interpretation of a fractional trajectory, that being an average over an ensemble of stochastic trajectories. Heretofore what has been interpreted as intrinsic friction, a form of non-Markovian dissipation that ...

Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectroscopy, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectroscopy and magnetic transmission soft x-ray microscopy (MTXM) experiments have been performed to gain insight into the magnetic anisotropy and domain structure of ultrathin Co9Ni multilayer films with a thin permalloy layer underneath. MTXM images with a spatial resolution better than 25 nm were obtained ...

Thermally-induced loss of piezoelectricity in ferroelectric Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3–BaTiO3 Report Title The loss of piezoelectricity in ferroelectric sodium bismuth titanate (NBT) in solid solution with barium titanate ((1? x)NBT?xBT) is studied by means of thermal depoling and Raman spectroscopy. In the range 0?x?13%, the highest thermal stability of the piezoelectric coefficients is found in x=13%, fo...
